Within the DFG funded project Radiofluorescence dating (IR-RF): Towards a suitable dating method for quaternary sediments the Chair for Physical Geography (Prof. M. Fuchs), Department of Geography, Justus-Liebig-University of Giessen, Germany, offers a

3-year 100% Post-doc position on radiofluorescence dating of feldspars (IR-RF) applied to quaternary sediments.

Payment will be according to ’Entgeltgruppe 13 Tarifvertrag Hessen (TV-H)’. This is equivalent to a gross salary of 48 – 65 k€ per year, depending on previous experience.

The candidate will further develop the technique of radiofluorescence (IR-RF) to establish a suitable dating method for quaternary sediments and will apply it to coarse grain K-feldspar and polymineral fine grain samples. This includes the IR-RF spectrometric characterization of the samples, to better understand IR-RF behavior regarding e. g. sensitivity change and saturation behavior. Finally, the developed and adapted measurement protocol (IRSAR) will be applied and tested to loess samples and samples from different sedimentation environments. Our luminescence laboratory is equipped with two high-end Lexsyg readers, including an RF-unit and a spectrometer and with two Lexsyg smart readers. For dose rate determination, the laboratory is equipped with three µDose devices. We offer an experienced and motivating team of researchers dealing with luminescence dating, geomorphology and Quaternary sciences.

Candidates should have a PhD in natural sciences, preferably in geosciences or physics and a background in luminescence dating. The candidates should provide evidence of high-quality research and a good publication record in peer-reviewed journals. A motivated, well organized, creative and enthusiastic team-player who will contribute to the group’s scientific success is much welcomed. Good English language skills are required.

The position is open until filled. Please send your application as a single PDF file exclusively via Email to Prof. Markus Fuchs (markus.fuchs@geogr.uni-giessen.de). The PDF should include a CV, 1-page letter of motivation, list of peer-reviewed publications and copies of study certificates.
